Clarksburg Italian Heritage Festival Flashback

I’m from Clarksburg, and one of the best-known traditions there is the annual Italian Heritage Festival. I loved this festival when I was a kid, though I must say in recent years it seems to have lost some of its luster. Still, it’s a good place to run into old friends I wouldn’t see otherwise, so I try to make it down when I can.
While I was perusing the historical-photos archive at the WVU Libraries website, I came across this photo from the first-ever Italian Heritage Festival. (I don’t want to post it here, because I don’t have the rights for it, so you’ll have to click that link.)
Tell me — does the guy in the middle remind any of you of a famous West Virginian?

You know, I’ve never been to that? And considering the fact that I come from a big ‘Talie family, I really should go. When is it?

It’s usually Labor Day weekend. I went a few years back, thinking I was going to get some good Italian food. The only Italian food there was a sausage sandwich! I was like, “WTF?” If you go, let us know!

Heh… that’s kind of a bummer!
I guess there isn’t much call for eggplant parmigiana at festivals.

I’m actually pretty surprised that nobody’s found a way to put that on a stick!

The last few times I was there, I was very surprised at how small the food selection was. I don’t even remember being able to get any pasta dishes. No tiramisu either. It just didn’t seem very Italian to me. I’ll go back, though, to see friends.
